While we are all comtemplating the great Spring weather, its also time to start thinking about the Summer All Star season! The application for COACHES is now open!
Calling all Coaches!! We need you to help coach the 2017 Summer All Stars!
The AGSA is pleased to announce that we will be running a Summer All Star (SAS) program for the summer of 2017. We are open to have teams at 8U, 10U and 12U levels for 2017 and depending upon interest, we may add an older level team. The decision on how many teams we will have for each age group depends upon: 1) The availability of appropriate quality coaches; 2) Sufficient interest in participation; 3) Adequate participation in key skills positions (pitcher and catcher) that could allow the team to be competitive at the All Star level. Coaches for the AGSA SAS program DO NOT NEED TO BE CURRENT AGSA COACHES BUT MUST PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK AS PART OF THEIR APPLICATION.
The concept of this program is to allow girls who want to improve their softball skills; play at a more competitive level and have a taste of the travel/tournament programs to have a chance to do that.
This is the 4rd year of this popular program and many of the former SAS players have shown up on travel rosters within the Sage as well as beyond. Some have been seen on various high school JV and Varsity teams!
This program depends upon having dedicated coaches who want to see girls improve their skills in a positive and fun setting. We hope to once again be able to hire some additional help to provide some skills coaching for hitting, catching, fielding and game management. The SAS teams will once again be supported by the AGSA in terms of handling all rostering and tournament entries. We are seeking coaches who have experience in managing a team and teaching proper softball skills and techniques.
If you are at all interested in coaching this season, please fill out the coach application via the agsafastpitch.com registration system. Coach applications will be accepted until March 26th. Coaches will be announced the following week. Tryouts are to be held . Tryouts will once again be managed by the AGSA and SAS coaches will be asked to participate as evaluators but not running the tryouts. Feedback will also be given by AGSA and Sage representatives who help to manage the tryouts.
Tryout registration WILL OPEN on March 20th.
Participants in the 2017 AGSA SAS program at the 8U, 10U and 12U levels MUST be playing house ball in Spring 2016. No players who are on a travel team currently will be eligible to play in the 2017 SAS program.
This is a competitive program and playing time is not guaranteed. The goal is to provide an opportunity for those players who are interested in improving their softball skills and/or playing in a tournament or travel setting. Players are expected to participate in SAS practices in addition to House games and practices. For the summer season, players will participate in 1-2 weekly practices/games and up to 3 tournaments including the FYFA All Star Tournament which will be held locally on Father's Day weekend. As a coach, you will help to set the team schedule – and AGSA will help you to identify potential scrimmage teams as well as appropriate tournaments. For players, there will be an additional cost for participation in the SAS program there will be a 50% coach discount given to any coach who has a daughter that makes the team. Scholarships are available.
Once agin in 2017, there will be NO PLAYING UP. We may have multiple teams in one age group. There will be no futures teams or A/B squads. The 2017 SAS season will end no later than 7/31/16.
